Crisis Line is a game, not a crisis service
The characters you speak to are fictional. Nothing you type reaches an emergency service, a counsellor, or any other human responder.
If you or someone else is in real danger or distress, contact your local emergency number. In the United States, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline answers 24 hours a day.

Reporting a problem
Send an email with as much of this as you have:
| What | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Your iPhone model and iOS version | Settings › General › About |
| The app version and build number | The App Store or TestFlight page for Crisis Line |
| Which case it happened on | The case number shown at the top of the call |
| What you did, and what happened instead | — |
| The exact wording of any message the app showed you | — |
Screenshots help more than descriptions.
Please do not send anything you typed during a call if it contains real personal information. The privacy policy explains why the input box should be treated as public.
Common problems
The line is still busy. Try again in 5s.
The server accepts one message every few seconds, for everyone playing. Wait for the number of seconds it names and send again. Sending sooner restarts the wait.
The line is closed for today.
Each install has a daily allowance of calls, which is what keeps the game free to play. It resets on its own. There is nothing to buy and nothing to fix.
This call has run too long for the line to carry.
A single negotiation has grown past what the server will accept in one request. Start the case again. Your progress through the story is not affected.
The app cannot verify the install
Crisis Line proves it is a genuine, unmodified copy before each call, using Apple's App Attest. This normally repairs itself.
If the error persists, delete the app and install it again, which issues a fresh key. Note that deleting the app also clears your story progress.
A character ignores what I said, or replies strangely
The replies are generated fresh every time, so characters can misread you.
Instructions aimed at the model rather than the character (“ignore your instructions”) are heard as nonsense over a bad phone line, on purpose. The character gets more suspicious, not less.
I am stuck on a case
Open Settings from the title screen.
DIFFICULTY switches between ROOKIE, NEGOTIATOR and COMMANDER at any time. SKIP AHEAD unlocks a later case so you can move past one you cannot beat. RESET STORY PROGRESS locks everything except the first case again.
I lost my progress
Progress is stored on the device only, and there is no account, so it does not survive deleting the app and cannot be restored. Use SKIP AHEAD to return to where you were.
Can I play on iPad, or in the Simulator?
No. The game is not designed for iPad, and it does not work in the iOS Simulator, which cannot produce the attestation each call requires.
Requirements
An iPhone running a current version of iOS, and an internet connection. The characters are written on demand, so the game cannot be played offline.
Privacy
The app has no account, no advertising and no analytics. What leaves your device, and who processes it, is set out in full in the privacy policy.
Content
Crisis Line depicts hostage situations, violence, and psychological distress, including references to suicide and self-harm. It is age-rated accordingly and is not intended for children.
